At J.J.Metcalfe and Son Ltd we design, prototype, test and manufacture performance agricultural parts for farmers, contractors, dealers and manufacturers.

At the forefront of the soil engagement industry we use high grade steels, proven heat treatment methods, hard facing and Tungsten Carbide.
We manufacture a wide range of agricultral wearing parts, which aim to improve the wearing life. This is mainly done through the use of Tungsten Carbide although other method are used. There are two main benefits from using Tungsten Carbide economical and agronomical;
Extended life - Less downtime replacing parts; more time in the field.
Tungsten carbide is generally 4 to 10 times longer lasting than heat treated steel.
Wear life is increased not just by the surface hardness of the Tungsten Carbide. A correctly designed component with its wearing edges protected by Tungsten Carbide will be more efficient at penetrating and cutting the soil, resulting in minimal smear and compressive forces which would otherwise increase draft and fuel consumption, etc.

Increase yield from reduced localised flooding.

Heat Treatment of Steels
Heat treating metal is a technique used to increase the hardness and wear life of metals. This is achieved by heating the metal to a given teperature, and then rapidly cooling in a quenching bath.
